Tennis: Aussies to play Spain in Adelaide

SYDNEY, Oct 4, 2009 (AFP)

Australia will stage their Fed Cup World Group II first round tie against Spain in Adelaide next February, Tennis Australia said on Sunday.

The February 6-7 tie will be played on a plexicushion hardcourt similar to that used at the Australian Open, TA said.

Australia, who are seeded 14 in the Fed Cup, last met Spain in Tarragona in 2003, where they lost 3-2 in the World Group match-up.

No.4 seeds Spain lead Australia 7-2 in Fed Cup ties having won the last seven matches.

Adelaide last hosted a Fed Cup tie in Australia's 5-0 defeat of Austria on grass in 2001.
