For the 2009 edition, Marion BARTOL defeat Venus WILLIAMS 6-2, 5-7, 6-4
In its 36th year, the Bank of the West Classic is the oldest women-only tennis tournament in the world. The much anticipated move in 1997 to Stanford University established the Bank of the West Classic (prize money: USD 600.000) as the premier outdoor professional tennis tournament in the region.
As the first of three important West Coast tune-up tournaments for the U.S. Open the Bank of the West Classic continues to attract the best in women’s tennis. In the last five years the tournament has featured Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, Lindsay Davenport, Anna Kournikova, Steffi Graf, Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters, Jennifer Capriati, and many more of the world’s top women professionals.
