On March 1, 2001, BNP Paribas signed a partnership agreement with the Association for the Promotion of Tennis to become the major sponsor of the Strasbourg Women's International Tennis Tournament.
Ranked as the second most important French women's tournament, this WTA (Women Tennis Association) tour event will welcome the world's best women players to Strasbourg this coming May 16 - 23, 2009. The biggest sporting event in Eastern France for over a decade, this major competition is followed by more than 30,000 spectators each year.
Some of the greatest players have won this tournament: Lindsay Davenport (95 and 96), Steffi Graf (97), Jennifer Capriati (99), Silvia Farina Elia (2001, 2002 and 2003), Claudine Schaul (2004), Anabel Medina Garigues (2005 and 2007) or Nicole Vaidisova (2006).
Edition 2008 :
The simple final was won by Spanish Anabel Medina Garigues against the Slovak Katarina Srebotnik 4-6, 7-6, 6-0.
The final double was won by Tatiana Perebiynis (UKR) / Yan Zi (CHN) against Y. Chan (TPE) / C. Chuang (TPE) 6-4, 6-7, 10-6.
